"Together, we achieve."

welcome to year 5

Hello and welcome to Year 5 class page. Here is where you can find out more about what we are currently learning. As the school year progresses, we will be showing you pictures and examples of the exciting learning that goes on in year 5. Please take time to read the letter sent home with some more information on how you can help your child at home with their learning. In Year 5 we are all committed to the learning of children in the classroom and want to make sure that everyone in the class develops as a learner and a member of the community.

Year 5

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a good break and are well rested for the busy year ahead.

Our first topic for the Spring Term is ‘The Rainforest’ during which we will learn about rainforest climates, global warming, deforestation and plants and animals. Our second topic is ‘Earth, Moon and Sun’ during which we will investigate day and night, phases of the moon, months and years and features of the Earth in space.

This term we are also looking forward to our residential trip to Kench Hill which will be taking place in March.

Maths will cover a range of topics with a focus on number work. We ask that you spend time at home making sure the children have instant recall of their times tables and related division facts to 12x12. The Spring Slam will be taking place again this term!

PE for Year 5 will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Children will need to bring a PE kit, including trainers, to change into. If there is a medical reason that your child is unable to do PE please send in a note.

We would like to remind you that learning starts at 9 o’clock and children can come up to the classroom from 8:50. Make-up and jewellery, with the exception of stud ear-rings and a watch are not allowed. All children are expected to wear full school uniform, including dark shoes, at all times.

Home learning this term will include:  fortnightly spelling lists, maths homework sheets linked to our classroom learning and English comprehension or grammar homework.  Some homework, such as interactive activities, games or word processing tasks, will be posted on the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). Your child already has a log in and password.

As always, we expect children to read at home for at least 20 minutes every day and complete their reading records.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to contact us visa the office.
