Expressive Arts and Design

Creating with Materials

Our EYFS classrooms have designated ‘workshop’ style areas where children can select the materials and tools they need to design and make. Different art materials are introduced and then left out in continuous provision time for children to explore and create with.

In Reception, the children have a weekly art lesson with our specialist art teacher where different media and processes are introduced throughout the year with links to our classroom themes and to specific artists and techniques.

Creativity is also encouraged through the provision of wooden block play and other construction kits on different scales, indoors and out.

Being Imaginative and Expressive

Children are encouraged to use their imagination through role play and dressing up or small world play such as with dinosaurs or castles and dragons.

They are encouraged to make up their own stories and we have lots of fun acting them out!

We love music! We enjoy making our own as well as joining in with and appreciating performances with visits from Camden’s Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and other musical visitors.

The children are encouraged to sing, dance and become confident performers through everyday play.

Each class presents an assembly for parents and friends during the year.
