Beckford Primary School

"Together, we achieve."

welcome to year 6

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Summer Term!

We hope you all had a good Easter break and are ready for your child’s last term at Beckford!

With the SATs tests coming up on 14th May, we ask that you continue to spend time at home making sure the children know their times tables to 12x12 and completing their set homework, which is given out weekly.  We will be giving weekly revision/tests to help the children prepare for the SATs tests.

Over the year, the children have worked very hard preparing for the SATs, so we wish them the best of luck!

Once the SATs are over, we will be planning a range of fun and exciting topics for the summer term as well as a range of trips. We will send out letters to inform you of the details accordingly.

This term we will be completing our London topic and starting our new history/geography/art based topic, The Ancient Maya. Our new Science topic will be The Human Body.  Maths, as usual, will cover a range of topics with a focus on reasoning skills. In addition, we will be planning a range of maths projects to add some investigative work and fun into the children's learning.

PE for year 6 will continue to be on a Thursday afternoon. Children will need a full change of clothes and suitable footwear. If there is a medical reason that your child cannot take part in PE please send a note.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that school starts at 9 o’clock and children should be arriving from 8:50 in order to be ready to start. Make-up and jewellery, with the exception of stud earrings and a watch, are not allowed. Please can you ensure your child comes to school in full school uniform as there have been some interesting choices of clothing recently! Thank you in advance for your support in ensuring school uniform, including dark shoes, is worn consistently.

This is a fun but slightly worrying term for some of our children with big changes ahead. We hope to make this transition period between primary and secondary school especially enjoyable and memorable. Remember to visit to our web page for regular updates, homework, photos and useful information to support your child at home.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes,

Karen Filiz, Hannah Bones, Matthew Tranter, Karen Palmer, Joan Lyster and Michelle Headley.

Year 6

Welcome back to school; we hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.

This term, we will continue to work on key arithmetic skills and mathematical fluency in preparation for the children's SATs and transition to secondary school. In English, we are reading Shakespeare's Macbeth. We will perform scenes from this iconic play and write in character as Macbeth. In Science, our topic is light. We will conduct experiments to investigate how light travels, how shadows are formed and how we see.

Our topic in Spring is London. We will be exploring London as a city throughout time, examining what living in London has been like in different time periods.
