welcome to year 5

Hello and welcome to Year 5 class page. Here is where you can find out more about what we are currently learning. As the school year progresses, we will be showing you pictures and examples of the exciting learning that goes on in year 5. Please take time to read the letter sent home with some more information on how you can help your child at home with their learning. In Year 5 we are all committed to the learning of children in the classroom and want to make sure that everyone in the class develops as a learner and a member of the community.

Year 5

Dear Y5 Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Autumn Term!

Our topic for this term is ‘Ancient Greece' in which we study Myths, religion, daily life and trade. You could support your child’s learning by visiting the library to read information books.

Letters about trips and other events will follow shortly.

Maths will cover a range of topics including rounding, ordering, comparing and calculating with 5 digit numbers. We ask that you spend time at home making sure the children have instant recall of their times tables and related division facts to 12x12.

PE for Year 5 will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Children will need to bring a PE kit to change into and a pair of trainers. If there is a medical reason that your child is unable to do PE please send in a note.

Music will around the recorder and will be led by a specialist teacher from Camden. Each child will be given a recorder to take home and practise with. The children are responsible for bringing these to school each week.

We would like to remind you that school starts at 9 o’clock and children can come up to the classroom from 8:50. Make-up and jewellery, with the exception of stud ear-rings and a watch are not allowed. All children are expected to wear full school uniform, including dark shoes, at all times.

Home learning this term will include: fortnightly spelling lists, weekly maths homework on paper and weekly English homework on the VLE. As always, we expect children to read at home for at least 20 minutes every day and complete their reading records.

We use the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) weekly for homework. Your child already has a log in and password, and has had training at school.  Please ensure they are logging in to check homework on a Friday. The deadline is always Wednesday.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Aaron Roberts, Debbie O’Brien and  Claire Dinata.
