Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! We hope that you had a great holiday and are well rested for the busy term ahead.
Our topic this term is School. We will think about how education has changed and how schools are different in other places. Next half term, we will think about schools in other countries around the world. If you or a family member would like to come in and talk to the children about your own schooling experiences, whether in this country or another, please tell your child’s class teacher. We would love to hear from you!
In English, we will be focusing on using engaging fiction texts and creating non-fiction writing linked to our topic. There will also be lots of focus on speaking and listening to help develop reading and writing. We will also continue phonics, spelling and handwriting lessons at the start of each afternoon. The children will have daily reading activities and will read with us weekly during Guided Reading sessions. Thank you for your continued support with reading. It is vital for the children to read to you and be able to talk about their books! Please bring the Reading Record/book bag to school daily, and continue to ask your children questions about their books at home.
In Maths, we will continue to build on children’s knowledge of key skills and strategies. There will be a strong emphasis on mental maths skills. We would appreciate your continued support in practising counting, numbers that add and subtract to 10, 20 and 100, and this term beginning with multiplication and division, as well as real life examples of maths such as money, time telling etc. Please continue to support this at home by talking to your child about their daily routine, money and prices in shops and bus and train timetables.
In Science, we will explore Living Things and their Habitats. The children will have opportunities to investigate scientific ideas and think about plants and animals in local and global habitats.
PE this term will continue to take place on Wednesday mornings. Children will need appropriate PE kit and footwear on this day.
Homework is set on Fridays for Maths and Spelling. Spelling practice can be completed on the sheet given out, and Maths homework is completed on Maths with parents.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that school is open from 8:50 and learning begins at 9 o’clock. Thank you for your support in ensuring school uniform is worn consistently. Jewellery, with the exception of stud earrings and/or a watch, is not allowed for health and safety reasons. As a Healthy School, we ask that packed lunches, including for trips, should promote healthy eating habits and not include sweets, chocolate bars, chocolate biscuits or fizzy drinks.
Thank you very much for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
