Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! We hope that you had a great break.
Our topic for this term is Under the Sea which will give lots of opportunities for cross-curricular learning including History, Art, Science and Design & Technology. As part of the topic, children will be attending trips both to Brighton and to Kentish Town Farm (more information, on both these events, will follow shortly).
In English we will be focusing on writing opportunities from story and non-fiction texts. There will be lots of focus on speaking and listening to help develop reading and writing. The children have daily reading activities and read to us during Guided Reading sessions. There are also spelling lessons which help the children to develop spelling and reading strategies. We will continue to focus on developing a legible handwriting style.
In Maths, we will build on key maths skills and strategies with a strong emphasis on number and calculations. Learning will be developed through the use of concrete equipment and picture representations as well as abstract numbers.
PE this term will be on Wednesday mornings. Children will need appropriate PE kits and footwear on this day. Sports Day is on Friday 13th July at the school.
Reading: The children now independently change their reading books. Thank you for your continued support with encouraging regular reading. Children who read daily make the most progress! It is important for the children to either read to you OR talk with you about their books. Each child has a Reading Record book for their comments.
Spelling and times tables: Children will continue to learn spellings patterns. Please ensure your children learn their spellings. The children will revise 2X, 5X and 10X. We will also be learning our 3X and 4 X tables. Thank you for your support.
Maths: We appreciate your continued support in encouraging the children to complete their Mathletics homework. The children should be doing at least 30 minutes per week. If you have difficulties accessing Mathletics please ask for our help. If you do not have computer access at home, there will be opportunities for children to complete homework in school.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that school is open from 8.50 and lessons start at 9 o’clock. Thank you for your support in ensuring school uniform is worn consistently. Jewellery, with the exception of stud earrings and a watch, is not allowed. Also, as a healthy school, packed lunches should promote healthy eating habits and not include sweets or fizzy drinks.
We look forward to a wonderful half term.
Aran Huseyin, Neil Thompson and Nicola Carmichael.
