Spring term learning
In nursery and reception, we continue to derive musical activities around the books they are reading and the inter related dimensions of music. We also have our spring show after half term to look forward to!
In year 1, we are building on notation; reading from rhythm squares using boomwhackers and after half term on ocarina.
In year 2 we are focusing on composition and furthering our skills on the keyboard. We are learning the treble clef and where to position our hands.
In year 3 we continue on recorder for the first half of the term, consolidating the notes in the treble clef, then we are moving to African drumming after half term.
In year 4 we are continuing to learn ukulele, consolidating chords: C Am F C7 G7 and E7. After half term we are building on our recorder skills from last year as well as learning new ukulele repertoire and practising our chord changes.
In year 5 we are learning about blues and from where and how it originated. Next term we are writing our own!
In year 6 we are using a programme recommended by the British Council: Mix the City to create jingles advertising some of the major cities around the world as holiday destinations. In the second half of the term we are studying composition on African drums.
